EVS has unveiled XT-S, a software-defined server platform within its LiveCeption portfolio. Instead of assigning hardware permanently to one task, operators can deploy applications on a common platform according to the requirements of each production.
The launch configuration supports LiveCeption replay and UHD zoom. EVS says additional applications will follow, allowing the same infrastructure to change roles as a production grows or moves between formats.
The technical significance is operational flexibility in an area traditionally built around dedicated appliances. A common compute and application layer could simplify sparing, capacity planning and upgrades if resources can be reassigned without affecting deterministic replay performance.
EVS has not published channel counts, supported codecs, storage architecture, resource-isolation rules or migration paths from existing XT servers. It also has not detailed how licensing changes when applications are moved or scaled, so the practical limits of the software-defined model remain to be tested.
