Canon has announced two additions to its professional production range: the CN30×40 IAS J R1/P1 ultra-telephoto cinema zoom and the RC-IP300 PTZ controller.
The Super 35 lens covers 40–1200mm and can reach 60–1800mm with its 1.5x extender, which also enables full-frame coverage. Canon lists a new servo drive, focus-breathing correction, autofocus support and lens metadata. The RC-IP300 can control up to 200 cameras and store 100 presets per camera, with a touchscreen preview and IP video inputs.
Why it matters
The products address two different scaling problems. Long-range sports and wildlife production needs repeatable optical control without losing metadata, while multi-room PTZ estates need operators to find and recall cameras quickly.
The headline capacities should be tested against real control latency, network segmentation and operator ergonomics. Managing 200 cameras is not only a protocol limit; it requires naming, permissions, preview routing and a failure model that remains understandable during live output.
