Telos Alliance has started shipping Zephyr Connect SE, a compact fanless hardware codec in its Studio Essentials range. The base appliance includes two bidirectional stereo codecs and can be expanded to eight through additional licences.
The unit is compatible with the iPort High Density gateway and the software-based Zephyr Connect virtual codec. Telos positions it for studio-to-transmitter links, network distribution, multichannel connections to remote studios and streaming encoding when paired with a suitable server.
Supported stream types include unicast UDP, unicast TCP and UDP multicast, while native Livewire+ support places the unit directly inside Axia-style AoIP environments. A fanless platform is operationally useful where acoustic noise or transmitter-site maintenance makes a conventional server unattractive.
The shipping announcement does not state codec algorithms, maximum bitrate, end-to-end delay, redundant power or licence price. Broadcasters will need those details, plus interoperability and loss-recovery tests, before using the appliance as a critical programme path.
