TBS used Xacti’s CX-WL100 wearable camera as a referee camera during a nationally televised international football match in Japan on October 1. The camera travelled with the match official, adding a moving first-person angle to the conventional production package.

Pictures were carried through LMS, or Live Multi Studio, a low-latency internet video and audio transport platform jointly developed by TBS Television and WOWOW Entertainment. TBS Act said the combination produced a compact system capable of sending high-quality pictures with low delay.

The difficult part of a referee view is not simply camera weight. The image must remain watchable as the official accelerates, turns and changes direction. The production team specifically credited Xacti’s image stabilisation with reducing shake enough for live use.

The manufacturer release does not state end-to-end latency, full system weight, mounting method, radio path or how often the angle reached air. It confirms operational use in a national broadcast but leaves the repeatability and editorial value of the workflow to further productions.
