Virginia Public Media has moved into a new Richmond headquarters designed and integrated with Broadcast Management Group. The multi-year project replaces infrastructure that had served the PBS and NPR affiliate for 66 years.
The facility handles 15 television feeds and includes two television studios with virtual-set capability, an insert studio, two podcast and radio rooms, two radio master-control rooms, three edit bays, post production, dedicated ingest and centralized routing. Media asset management is hosted in BMG’s Cloud Control Center.
The plant combines Ross routing, switching and graphics, Grass Valley cameras and AMPP asset management, Harmonic playout and compression, Crispin automation, TSL monitoring, Apogee processing, SAS radio consoles, Yamaha audio and Zero Density virtual sets. Dark fibre also supports the transmitter connection.
The published case study provides an unusually detailed equipment list but not network topology, redundancy, security zones, migration sequence, disaster-recovery targets, staffing changes or acceptance-test results. BMG remains the managed-service and engineering partner after launch.
