The University of Utah has added a central sports production facility based on SMPTE ST 2110. Systems integrator Diversified designed the operation to serve multiple athletic venues and support the university's growing schedule of live output, including ESPN+ productions and future linear broadcasts.
The IP design separates production resources from individual venues. Cameras and venue signals can be routed to a common control environment, allowing the university to reuse switching, audio, replay and monitoring capacity instead of building a complete room for every sport.
That model also has an educational role. The facility sits within the College of Humanities and gives students access to workflows that increasingly resemble professional network and remote-production plants. For engineering teams, the important test will be whether timing, discovery, access control and operational responsibility stay understandable as more venues are connected.
The source confirms the ST 2110 architecture and intended use, but it does not publish switch capacity, redundancy topology, endpoint inventory or measured latency. Those details remain necessary before the design can be treated as a repeatable reference architecture.
