Lady Gaga’s The Dead Dance was shot with an ARRI ALEXA Mini LF and ZEISS Master Prime lenses. The production pursued a black-and-white image with hard, directional light, making the lens response to contrast, highlights and flare central to the visual design.
Master Primes were selected for their speed and controlled optical behaviour. In monochrome work, colour separation no longer carries the image, so small changes in veiling flare and local contrast can have a stronger effect on faces, textures and the readability of dark areas.
The compact ALEXA Mini LF body allowed the camera department to work flexibly around performance and choreography while retaining a large-format capture path. The case is a reminder that lens character is an operational choice tied to lighting and finishing, not only a specification-sheet decision.
The report does not publish exposure index, filtration, focal-length use, recording format, lighting levels or the final monochrome conversion method. The account is a production profile rather than a controlled optical test of the lenses.
