A survey conducted by TVBEurope, TV Technology and Caretta Research reports that SDI remains the primary infrastructure approach for 70 percent of broadcast and media companies. Across all respondents, 90 percent still use SDI somewhere in their operations.

Only 22 percent of broadcaster respondents said IP had been deployed through most of their operation. Among IP approaches, SMPTE ST 2110 leads, followed by NDI. Master control was the area most often selected for a first or next deployment, while news, venues and outside broadcast ranked lower.

The results point to a migration built around contained operational islands and replacement cycles rather than wholesale conversion. Nearly half of buyers still preferred dedicated appliances, suggesting that reliability, support and clear operating models remain as important as software flexibility.

The published article does not state the number of respondents, geographic mix or full questionnaire, limiting how far the percentages can be generalised. Even so, the findings are a useful warning against treating IP adoption as uniform across facility types and organisations.
