A survey by TV Tech, TVBEurope and Caretta Research finds that SDI remains the primary infrastructure approach at 70% of broadcast and media companies and appears somewhere in the operations of 90% of respondents. SMPTE ST 2110 is the leading choice among organisations that have moved to IP.
Only 22% of broadcaster respondents say IP is deployed across most of their operation. Master control is the production area most likely to contain IP or receive it during the next year, while newsrooms, venue systems and outside-broadcast trucks are less advanced.
Buyer and supplier expectations diverge around compute and benefits. Nearly half of buyers prefer dedicated appliances for IP production, and almost half identify added technical complexity as the main outcome; vendors expect more COTS deployment and place greater weight on business efficiency.
The respondents were geographically broad and mostly experienced, but the published article does not state sample size, recruitment method or margins of error. The percentages describe the survey group rather than the entire industry, and a deeper report is still planned.
