SummitMedia is using Axia Altus virtual consoles to let staff operate radio studios remotely through a browser. WebRTC carries the interactive audio and control session, allowing an operator to work from a computer without reproducing the complete studio control surface at the remote location.

The broadcaster still uses a traditional broadcast codec for at least one co-anchor contribution, so the design is hybrid rather than a wholesale replacement of purpose-built links. That separation lets the station choose the lower-friction browser route for control while keeping an established contribution path where the programme role calls for it.

For radio operations, the important change is reach: a software console can follow talent and engineering staff outside the building while remaining connected to the station plant. It may also reduce the amount of dedicated hardware needed for temporary or backup positions.

The published account does not quantify end-to-end latency, packet-loss behaviour, browser support, authentication controls or failover procedures. It also does not compare audio quality with the retained codec path, so suitability for a given programme still depends on network and operational testing.
