Sony has introduced the ECM-AX10, a compact USB-C microphone certified for Eclipsa Audio. Four omnidirectional capsules in a spherical module support Ambisonics capture, while selectable binaural and stereo modes provide simpler delivery paths for headphones and conventional playback.

With Sony’s Spatial Audio Video Tool, a compatible phone can record video, review material, perform simple edits and export spatial-audio video. Ambisonics mode targets Eclipsa Audio publishing on YouTube, while binaural mode uses Sony processing to preserve directional cues over headphones where Eclipsa playback is unavailable.

The microphone weighs about 24 grams and connects directly over USB-C, which makes immersive capture practical for mobile reporting, behind-the-scenes production and creator workflows. Eclipsa Audio is based on the open IAMF specification, giving the device a standards-oriented delivery target rather than a Sony-only playback format.

Sony says 4K recording inside its companion app is planned for December 2026, so that function is not available at launch. Recording quality depends on the phone, and untested devices are not guaranteed. Independent noise, dynamic-range and localisation measurements have not been published.
