Sony has developed a markerless system for evaluating the synchronisation of multiple dancers. Eight cameras capture the performance while computer vision tracks individuals without wearable markers or sensors.
The system is designed to continue tracking under changing lighting and when performers partially obscure one another. It presents the result as annotated video and numerical synchronisation data, giving judges a repeatable reference alongside their visual assessment.
For live production, the same underlying capability points toward real-time performance analysis, augmented graphics and automated metadata for complex group movement. The absence of body-worn markers reduces setup and avoids changing a performer's costume or motion.
Sony explicitly positions the system as support for judges rather than an autonomous decision maker. The release does not publish processing latency, accuracy by movement type, calibration time or false-tracking rates. It also does not confirm a commercial product or broadcast integration, so wider production use remains a possible extension rather than a deployed workflow.
