Sonnet has introduced the Solo10G T5, a bus-powered Thunderbolt 5 to 10GBASE-T adapter for production laptops, workstations and compatible iPad Pro models. The unit uses a single RJ45 port and is positioned for high-speed transfers, shared media storage and other workflows where built-in Ethernet is slower or absent.
The adapter supports 10GbE over Cat 6A for up to 100 metres and Cat 6 for up to 55 metres. It can negotiate 5GbE and 2.5GbE over Cat 5e or better, and it supports AVB on compatible Mac systems and networks. Sonnet lists macOS 15 or later, Windows 11 and actively supported Linux 6.6 LTS kernels.
The aluminium enclosure is fanless and the captive Thunderbolt cable can be replaced. Internally, Sonnet retains a Marvell AQC113C Ethernet controller while moving the host interface to Thunderbolt 5, with backwards compatibility for several Thunderbolt and USB4 hosts.
The 10GbE port remains the throughput ceiling; Thunderbolt 5 does not make the network faster than 10Gbps. Published material does not include sustained transfer tests, thermals under long writes, AVB interoperability results or performance on older host interfaces. Full workflow speed will still depend on switch, cabling, storage and protocol overhead.
