Sky UK and SES have extended their direct-to-home satellite partnership under a new multi-year agreement. Sky will continue using capacity at SES’s 28.2 degrees East orbital position to serve households in the United Kingdom and Ireland into the next decade.

The arrangement continues a relationship that began in 1988. Satellite remains useful for delivering the same linear services to a large geographic footprint without creating an individual broadband session for every viewer. It also reaches homes where broadband performance or product preference makes a dish-based service more practical.

For Sky, the renewal does not reverse the growth of streaming and IP delivery. It preserves a parallel distribution path while the company gives customers more ways to access services. The engineering significance is continuity: uplink, encryption, receiver and channel operations can remain stable while other platforms evolve at a different pace.

The companies confirm the orbital position and multi-year term but do not disclose transponder capacity, channel formats, redundancy, encryption changes, energy use, pricing or an exact end date. The commercial agreement therefore establishes direction rather than a detailed technical roadmap.
