Sigma has introduced the 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS Contemporary for APS-C cameras in Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF mounts. Its field of view corresponds roughly to 75-180mm on full frame while maintaining a constant F2.8 aperture.
The lens weighs about 390 grams and measures 99mm long, making it substantially smaller than many full-frame telephoto zooms. Optical stabilisation is rated at up to 6.5 stops at the wide end and 5.5 stops at the telephoto end under the manufacturer’s test method.
Internal focusing and a linear motor are intended to keep autofocus quick and quiet for stills and video. The compact range could suit gimbal, documentary and small-crew work where physical balance matters as much as maximum focal length.
The lens is scheduled for 22 October at $799. Sigma has not published measured focus breathing, parfocal behaviour, distortion after correction or stabilisation performance during walking shots. Those video-specific characteristics require independent testing on each supported mount.
