Scalstrm demonstrated a single 1RU server processing 110 broadcast-grade HD channels. The system uses NETINT video-processing units for decoding, scaling and encoding rather than assigning the entire media workload to general-purpose CPUs.

Scalstrm’s software layer distributes channels across the available processing resources and handles error recovery. The same management approach is intended for on-premises, cloud and hybrid deployments, allowing an operator to scale channel capacity without changing its control model.

High density can lower rack space, power and server count, but it also increases the consequence of a node failure. The practical engineering question is therefore not only maximum channel count, but how quickly workloads recover and what capacity must remain reserved for redundancy.

The report cites deployments involving NPO and Ziggo Sport but does not publish codec settings, resolutions beyond the HD description, bitrates, power draw, failover time or quality measurements. Those details are needed before the headline density can be compared with another transcoder platform.
