RØDE has released firmware 1.4 for the RØDECaster Video, Video S and Video Core, adding dedicated capture modes alongside the consoles’ existing Full HD switching workflow. In 4K Capture Mode, the units accept UHD feeds over HDMI at up to 30 frames per second and publish each input as a separate NDI HX source.
The original RØDECaster Video handles four camera feeds, while the Video S and Video Core handle three. Each feed can also be recorded as an isolated H.264 or H.265 track to attached SSD storage. A second capture mode keeps the workflow at 1080p60 for productions that value frame rate over UHD resolution.
Capture mode is intentionally narrower than the normal switcher mode. Graphics, media playback, keying, scenes and direct streaming are disabled, although simple HDMI switching remains for monitoring. Moving between modes requires a reboot.
Firmware 1.4 also expands RØDECaster Sync to the full video-console range, adds per-output audio routing, OTIO timeline export for Adobe Premiere Pro and USB-webcam audio input. The update is available free, but published information does not yet establish real-world NDI latency, network bandwidth under maximum load or storage duration at the highest recording settings.
