Nikon is using CABSAT 2026 to demonstrate its R3D NE RAW workflow with the compact full-frame Nikon ZR. The camera records 12-bit RAW internally, and the format applies technology derived from RED’s R3D RAW, including RED colour science and exposure standards.

At the show, Nikon is grading R3D NE material in DaVinci Resolve. Demonstration footage includes deliberately overexposed and underexposed material so visitors can inspect how much image information remains available for recovery and creative adjustment in postproduction.

The company is positioning the ZR inside its Z CINEMA range, with the broader stand also showing the Z5IIC, Z6III and Z8. The technical significance is the attempt to put a cinema-oriented RAW and grading path into a smaller camera body without requiring an external recorder.

A trade-show demonstration is not a controlled latitude or compression test. Nikon has not provided independent measurements of dynamic range, rolling shutter, storage demand, thermal limits or grading performance in the source, so those claims still require production qualification.
