The production of Netflix’s Wonka’s The Golden Ticket used 80 Sony robotic cameras across its living and challenge sets. Cutting Edge Technical Services installed 50 BRC-AM7 PTZ units and 30 ILME-FR7 full-frame cameras, all cabled to a central master control room.
Seven hot-head operators and two CCU positions managed the system. The FR7’s full-frame sensor and interchangeable E-mount lenses allowed production to hide cinema-style cameras inside scenery. Some sequences expanded from three planned FR7 positions to ten after the team found additional concealed angles.
The BRC-AM7 contributed 4K60 output, a 20x optical zoom and automated framing. With 24 contestants moving through the set, auto-follow tools and web control helped operators supervise 50 PTZ feeds recording to server. Selected FR7 units recorded UHD internally while sending 1080 over SDI, preserving higher-resolution material for graphics composites.
The case study confirms camera and operator counts but does not disclose the routing, record-server design, timing, storage volume, metadata workflow or failure strategy. Sony and the production supplier are principal sources, so performance claims have not been independently benchmarked.
