Mavis has released version 8.2 of its Camera application for iPhone and iPad. The update supports the variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, while adding ProRes RAW capture to an external SSD, HDMI output and a WebSocket interface for custom control.

External RAW recording changes the storage and finishing path: high-data-rate material can bypass internal capacity and enter a managed post-production workflow. HDMI output allows the phone to feed a monitor, recorder or converter, while the API creates a route for remote settings, automation and purpose-built control panels.

Together, those functions could make multiple phones easier to operate as fixed, remote or specialty cameras. The useful distinction from a consumer camera application is not image quality alone, but the ability to connect acquisition, storage, monitoring and control to other production systems.

The release confirms the feature set, but published coverage does not specify supported RAW resolutions and frame rates, storage performance requirements, API commands, authentication, genlock behaviour or end-to-end output latency. Those details determine whether the workflow is suitable for synchronized live use.
