Indonesia has started a joint HbbTV and DVB-I trial involving the Multi Media College STMM, public broadcaster TVRI and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Komdigi. The setup links TVRI’s Yogyakarta transmission facilities with receiving and evaluation work at STMM.
HbbTV can attach broadband applications and interactive functions to a broadcast channel, while DVB-I provides service discovery and presentation for television services delivered over IP as well as conventional networks. Testing both allows the participants to examine a hybrid viewer journey rather than treating the technologies as isolated demonstrations.
For public-service media, the combination could support richer programme information, catch-up links, accessibility functions and a consistent service list on connected devices. It also creates governance questions around service metadata, application security and receiver conformance.
The announcement does not publish receiver models, HbbTV profile, DVB-I service-list format, network architecture, audience test results or a deployment timetable. The work is a trial and should not be read as a confirmed national rollout.
