ARRI and HONOR have introduced an imaging collaboration in the Magic9 Pro Max smartphone. The phone can record using ARRI LogC3 and the AWG3 colour gamut, alongside ARRI Looks intended to provide consistent starting points for capture and finishing.
HONOR says the device records APV video in 10-bit 4:2:2 and uses a dedicated H1 imaging processor. The camera system includes two 200-megapixel modules, while an optional mobile cinematography kit adds teleconverters and handling accessories. A directional microphone is intended to improve audio focus during mobile production.
For professional crews, the useful element is metadata and colour-pipeline compatibility rather than the megapixel count. LogC3 and AWG3 can give dailies, social material or supplementary angles a more predictable transform into a managed grade. Sensor size, optics, rolling shutter and compression still distinguish a phone from a cinema acquisition system.
The announced specifications and initial China launch are confirmed. ARRI and HONOR have not published measured dynamic range, sensor readout, APV bitrates, timecode support, lens metadata behaviour or an independent colour-match test. Availability in additional markets is planned but not fully dated.
