Flanders Scientific has released firmware 3.2.14 for its XMP and XMP C reference-monitor families. The update adds Rotary Knob Lockout, allowing facilities to prevent an accidental turn from changing a calibrated or approved monitoring setting during a session.
A new Pixel Shift option moves the displayed image slightly once per minute to reduce the risk of image retention and burn-in when static, high-contrast graphics remain on screen. FSI says the panel’s native resolution is larger than the active 3840×2160 raster, so the shift can occur without cropping the video or removing active picture information.
The change is operationally relevant for grading suites, quality-control positions and control rooms where scopes, menus, channel bugs or split-screen references may remain in fixed positions for long periods. Moving protection into firmware also avoids asking operators to remember a manual mitigation step.
The release confirms the two functions but does not quantify how far the image moves, the resulting reduction in retention risk, any effect on pixel-accurate comparison, or whether all panel generations behave identically. Facilities should validate the mode against their calibration and critical-viewing procedures before enabling it permanently.
