The US Federal Communications Commission plans to vote on three spectrum and equipment-authorisation proposals at its 29 October open meeting. The agenda includes tighter restrictions on laboratories linked to countries without reciprocal equipment-testing arrangements.
The FCC says 29 test laboratories have already lost recognition under existing concerns. The new proposal would extend the policy, a material issue for manufacturers whose broadcast, RF, contribution or consumer devices require FCC testing before they can enter the US market.
Commissioners will also consider auctioning 25MHz in the 1675-1695MHz and 2020-2025MHz bands, additional rules for direct-to-device satellite services and final rules enabling drone operations within the 800MHz cellular band. Each action could affect interference planning and future wireless products.
These are agenda items rather than adopted rules. Final text may change at the meeting, and the announcement does not establish auction timing, transition arrangements, permitted drone power or the complete impact on incumbent users. Engineering decisions should wait for the voted orders.
