Canon has announced the EOS R8 Mark II, a compact full-frame hybrid camera built around the familiar 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor. The main hardware change is in-body stabilisation rated at up to 7.5 stops in the centre and seven stops toward the frame edge.
For video, the camera records up to 4K60 oversampled from 6K and Full HD at up to 180 frames per second. Canon includes a 2.35:1 Cinema View, Custom Picture profiles, Canon Log 3, HLG, LUT support and Movie Digital IS. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II adds deep-learning subject detection and a dedicated rear autofocus joystick.
Register People Priority can store ten faces in-camera and up to 100 on a memory card. Canon also exposes Dual Pixel data for a separate application to create 3D images and models, although the practical production workflow for that feature remains to be demonstrated.
The body weighs 499 grams before card and battery and is scheduled for late October at $1,899. Canon has not published heat-limit tests, rolling-shutter measurements, codec bitrates or long-form recording behaviour, so the headline specifications do not yet establish its reliability for sustained professional acquisition.
