MainStreaming and Deutsche Telekom are extending their delivery partnership with infrastructure that broadcasters can reserve for individual high-demand live events. The model is intended for peaks that may last only three or four hours a few times each year.

MainStreaming provides servers, streaming software and delivery technology, while Deutsche Telekom supplies connectivity and egress inside its German network. Capacity can be placed closer to viewers and booked for the event window instead of remaining permanently provisioned for the broadcaster’s theoretical maximum audience.

The approach could improve resilience when used alongside a multi-CDN strategy, because it adds a dedicated on-net path rather than only another conventional CDN allocation. It also makes legitimate and pirated audience traffic an operational planning issue: unplanned redistribution can consume capacity dimensioned for expected viewers.

The partners cite existing work around MagentaTV and MainStreaming’s role in ITVX delivery. They do not disclose reservation lead time, traffic limits, geographic coverage, pricing, failover policy, cache-fill design, service levels or results from a completed event.
