Hedge has previewed Canopy, a production-media catalogue intended to remain useful when the drives containing the original files are offline. Users can browse, scrub and search the material from a persistent overview rather than reconnecting each volume to discover what it contains.
The product is designed to index media without moving, renaming or reorganising the underlying files. That is important for established production folders, where an automated library tool can otherwise break relinks or disturb a delivery structure.
An offline catalogue can reduce the time spent locating archive volumes and preparing restores. Its value will depend on how reliably it tracks renamed drives, duplicate filenames, proxy relationships and media that changes after an initial scan.
Hedge describes Canopy as forthcoming and has not published a release date, platform list, pricing, supported storage protocols or the metadata extracted from each format. Security, catalogue backup and multi-user behaviour also remain to be detailed.
