Barnfind has introduced BarnColor, a wavelength-division multiplexing system that combines several optical wavelengths on one fibre. The endpoints are colour coded so technicians can match each transmitter and receiver to the wavelength assigned in a larger chain.
Available interfaces include 3G-SDI, 12G-SDI, Ethernet with PoE, SFP connectivity and native 4K HDMI. Barnfind says the video paths are uncompressed and add no codec latency. Up to four units can be daisy-chained on each side of a link, creating as many as 32 signals, 16 in each direction, over the common fibre.
The approach is useful when a venue or outside-broadcast position has limited fibre but needs return video, camera feeds, control and data at the same time. WDM preserves separate optical channels while avoiding a field codec at each endpoint. Correct wavelength planning and optical power budgets remain essential.
The overview confirms interface options and the stated maximum signal count. It does not publish supported fibre distance for every module, optical-loss margin, redundancy, monitoring, hot-swap behaviour or measured jitter and return loss. “Zero latency” should be read as no compression delay rather than literally no propagation or processing time.
