Apple has announced additional controls for Full Disk Access in macOS. The permission exists partly so backup applications can work across protected data, but it can also expose files, mail, messages and browsing history outside the narrower controls normally applied by the operating system.

The company says future grants will require very explicit user action. Apple links the change directly to more capable and autonomous AI agents, which can turn a broad standing permission into access exercised repeatedly or without a user following each individual operation.

For broadcast and post-production teams, the change may affect media-management, backup, ingest, transcription and automation tools that currently ask for complete disk access. Developers may need to narrow permissions or redesign onboarding, while administrators should inventory workflows that rely on the entitlement.

Apple has not named the macOS release, implementation date, migration rules or any replacement API. The notice is therefore an early engineering signal, not a complete specification, and existing production Macs should not be changed solely on the basis of the announcement.
